Rainbow's End
The very first sign
of acceptance to a child
is the radiant glow
of a woman's smile,
and it remains
the pot of gold
at rainbow's end
the lonely souls
of most men seek.

My Comfort
Can I share my fears with you?
Will you comfort my despair?
Will you always spare an open ear
where I can pour my troubles?
Will you support me in my struggle
to know better, to do better,
to be better than I am?
To overcome
the pressures that I,
as a black man,
am under?
Stereotypes that shape
flawed expectations
in great numbers?
I chose you
because you
put me at ease -
make me feel safe
enough to set aside
my cowl and my cape.
To be. To just be me
without a bar I must live up to
except to bare my soul enough to love you.

Little Pieces
Little Pieces
A million
little pieces...
Scattered
as if shattered
by the hammer
of her bluntness.
"I don't want this
anymore."
The purity
of her surety
an echo
that endures...
bouncing
in the hollows
between my lungs.

I Want All
I do not want
your love
without your pain,
your hug
without your shame,
your kiss
without your anguish.
without your anguish.
Place your torments
in my hands
that I may vanquish
from your soul
the loss of your control
over your heart,
that you might
once again
feel free enough to start
embracing all the love
you used to run from...
