Rainbow's End

Rainbow's End

The very first sign
of acceptance to a child
is the radiant glow
of a woman's smile,
and it remains
the pot of gold
at rainbow's end
the lonely souls
of most men seek.

My Comfort

My Comfort

Can I share my fears with you?
Will you comfort my despair?
Will you always spare an open ear
where I can pour my troubles?
Will you support me in my struggle
to know better, to do better,
to be better than I am?
To overcome
the pressures that I,
as a black man,
am under?
Stereotypes that shape
flawed expectations
in great numbers?
I chose you
because you
put me at ease -
make me feel safe
enough to set aside
my cowl and my cape.
To be. To just be me
without a bar I must live up to
except to bare my soul enough to love you.

Little Pieces

Little Pieces

A million
little pieces...

Scattered
as if shattered
by the hammer
of her bluntness.
"I don't want this
anymore."
The purity
of her surety
an echo
that endures...
bouncing
in the hollows
between my lungs.

I Want All

I Want All

I do not want
your love
without your pain,
your hug
without your shame,
your kiss
without your anguish.
Place your torments
in my hands
that I may vanquish
from your soul
the loss of your control
over your heart,
that you might
once again
feel free enough to start
embracing all the love
you used to run from...

Spirit Talk

(Visual art by @bktheartist)

Spirit Talk

Here we are…
immersed in a blend
of each other’s scents
and hot fluids,
mixed with kisses
and dreams we dreamt
and pursued with
so much zeal…
Riding these waves
of emotions we feel
until they crested and crashed
in releases, and squeezes,
shudders of chilled sweats,
and stuttering breaths of elation.
Serene in this blending we lay in.
These body warm blankets
of hugs and touches and rubs
these souls’ conversation
called…LOVE

Gasping For Heir

Gasping For Heir

I wish my father
had lived to see
the man I have
grown to be.
That I might have
allayed any doubts
on how I'd turn out
before he accepted
the grave.
For if his spirit
can see this plane
he'd bear no shame
from me
save my one
disappointment:
That I didn't
water my seed
with the teachings
imparted to me
through his example.
And though we
have since
made amends
and he has
forgiven my sin,
we shall never be
as life intended.
For this I accept
my life sentence
of never being
called "Pops"
by the fruit
having roots
in mine's tree,
the way mine was
accustomed to
from me...
